Ambiguous

Stumped Ace did not know why someone would want two tribes to go to war, there had to be some monetary factor involved, but what? He thought he would seek out the answer by meditating and asking his spiritual teacher what he may be missing.

Ace Ventura has a skill for finding lost pets, that’s his job as a pet detective. However he became distraught after a rescue attempt failed trying to rescue a lost raccoon in mountains. Watching the poor creature fall from his grip left Ace in despair to which he sought solace from a monastery. On his path to recovery he was awarded a token of accomplishment a sacred medallion.

Despite being on sabbatical and no longer in the pet finding business, his assistance is needed to find a bat that was stolen from a tribe causing conflict between a neighboring tribe. Ace is lover of all animals but bats give him the creeps. He took the job anyway and pulled out all the tricks to find the culprit who stole the bat. He went as far as being reborn, literally from a faux rhino.

His mentor gave him the answer, “the medallion will lead you to the answer” But that won’t work, he had lost it. Ace was thinking the medallion would lead him to the answer in some spiritual sense with the form of guidance, but the mentor literally meant the medallion is where you need to look, physically where it is currently at in a big pile of guano.

The clue that Ace was given was pretty straight forward. However it was easy for Ace to think in the context and source that the meaning behind that statement was strictly a spiritual one, but it had more than one meaning.

Ambiguous: open to more than one interpretation; having a double meaning.

Trouble with language is that sometimes meaning is difficult to obtain using language alone. In Wittgenstein’s picture theory of language a proposition constructs a mirrored version of itself in reality as a logical picture. The proposition must mirror the fact it represents. There are limits as to what can be represented as a logical picture, language can only represent possible state of affairs and not the true nature of reality itself.

Wittgenstein introduced the concept of language game that “is meant to bring into prominence the fact that the speaking of language is part of an activity, or of a life-form.” The main focus of the language game is that it must be focused in some context and outside of that context the meaning is not clear and potentially ambiguous. Examples of language games would be giving or receiving orders, describing something to another person, or reporting an event. Depending on the context meaning is kind of trapped within and is only freed by placing the statement of proposition within the proper context, letting the fly out of the bottle so to speak.

Obviously my interests include philosophy. I think thinking and thought are the beginning of every great thing. It’s how we understand and perceive the world. Periodically I’ll change things up and blog about something math or computer science related or even a blog about mythology. I am not political, trendy, or savvy, but I do like a good story. That is why I try and find a movie clip that hints or encompasses what I want to blog about. Sometimes the relevance is there, sometimes it’s a reach and I just really love the movie that I put in the post. The intent and purpose of my blog is to make you think, make me think and together our thoughts can be shared in a collection of material.
