Altruism

Crystal tells the story, a rather morbid and dark version of the tortoise and the hare. The tortoise thinks that if he tries hard enough and works at it then it’s quite possible that he can defeat the jack rabbit. Although everyone knows that is not possible, the jack rabbit is quicker both in wit and movement, getting beat by the tortoise isn’t possible.

Crystal and Don were free from Mr. Bullshit. The man who Crystal ran over was supposedly going to take them to the embassy and straighten out their predicament but she saw right through that. When she determined that the man driving was baiting them into answering why someone would hunt them for sport she turned sideways in the “rescue car” and kicked him right out of the vehicle, then to Don’s surprise backed up and ran him over.

The Hunt is a political satire that jabs at the polarized ideological view points between the left and the right. The right have many conspiracy theories about why the world is such as mess, the left is up to all kinds of no good. They even go so far that the elite liberals have this manor in which they hunt people, it even has a name “Manor Gate”. So the liberal elites are through with the conspiracy theories and flat out politically incorrectness of the deplorable right counter part and seek out a few to make examples of by hunting them for sport, for real.

There’s a scene in the movie early on where the hunted stop at a gas station, or what appears to be a gas station. The older couple sees that the people who just entered their store are a little frazzled, well pretty freaked out to say the least. One of the escapees feels relief that they have escaped immediate danger and helps herself to a powdered sugar donut. The donut is laced with poison and she soon begins to foam at the mouth, distracted, the man at the counter turns to see what’s happening at that point the old man behind the counter takes him out with double barrel shotgun. Him and his frail looking wife slap on the gas masks and discharge some poisonous gas to take out the rest of them. The old man walks over and reminds the fellow struggling to breathe “climate change is real”.

Climate change is one of the factors that each side argue about. One feels very strongly towards preventing climate change the other side is not so convinced that there is a problem to address. These issues are not necessarily moral issues, they are more environmental issues. Would you say it is morally wrong to pollute the environment and litter? Well I guess it depends on which side of the counter you are on, that old man seemed to think it was pretty important.

According to Kant there is a categorical imperative that drives people to act in accordance with universal moral laws. Universal in the sense that the action brings out a greater good for the whole. Kant suggests that this sense of duty is a prior or without firsthand experience, we are innately wired to follow this moral code. The categorical imperative is a way to evaluate a persons actions behind their motives. We are responsible for our actions after all, we have the ability to impose our will and take action upon the world. If causality is true, then we can make assumptions on the effects of our actions.

“If I study for the test, I might get a good grade.”

“If I go to bed early, I won’t be tired the next day.”

These examples are more of a personal duty and wouldn’t necessarily be a universal morality. So where would universal morality come from? Would it be our sense of survival within a group and the “moral code” is made up thing to function best within the group?

Romans 2:15 says, “They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them”.

So we are grafted with a sense of moral principles kind of like the cartoon characters that have an angel on one side and a devil figure on the other, we must make moral choices knowing that there are consequences for them.

Ayers would say that morality does not make any statement more true, if I were to say you were wrong in stealing that money, I would not be saying anything more true after the fact you stole the money.

I suppose I could work real hard and train and perhaps one day I may in fact…

The jack rabbit always wins.

Obviously my interests include philosophy. I think thinking and thought are the beginning of every great thing. It’s how we understand and perceive the world. Periodically I’ll change things up and blog about something math or computer science related or even a blog about mythology. I am not political, trendy, or savvy, but I do like a good story. That is why I try and find a movie clip that hints or encompasses what I want to blog about. Sometimes the relevance is there, sometimes it’s a reach and I just really love the movie that I put in the post. The intent and purpose of my blog is to make you think, make me think and together our thoughts can be shared in a collection of material.
