Adventures of the Unfortunate: Shihaisha

I had this program that would allow you to mix music and in theory allowed you to make your own beats. You could find instrumental mp3s on the internet and overlay an acapella layer and pass it off as your mix. It was hard to find instrumentals and acapella that you’d want to put together, so I bought this program to extract layers out of a finished radio edit. With that you could take an mp3 that has already been mixed and take it apart and make a new version.

With that I was able to sample audio from various sources and compile them together into a single track. It was novice but still kind of cool.

At the time I was attending college at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, and I was taking a 100-level psychology course. One of the requirements of the class was to interview someone and get to know them. I sat next to a Japanese exchange student, and I thought it would be interesting to get to know her. I told my friends that when I head over to her apartment, I was going to refer to myself as shihaisha which I thought was Japanese for emperor but it actually means governor, hmmm sounded ok.

One of our friends need assistance putting together a mixed tape so that she could do her choreography for a dance session that was for cheer. Her name is Kanoe (sorry I am not good at spelling). She is a half Hawaiian half European beautiful goddess. She is probably the smartest person I know and kind. Don’t let that cheerleader skirt fool you, she is a genius. I am the epitome of dorky, but she asked me to help so I did. We put together this track that had clips of several music videos on VHS.

The timing had to be just right because each clip were spots in her routine that she needed the music to be correct. We did a good job, my friend told me later she scored the highest with that mix, he called me shihaisha.

Obviously my interests include philosophy. I think thinking and thought are the beginning of every great thing. It’s how we understand and perceive the world. Periodically I’ll change things up and blog about something math or computer science related or even a blog about mythology. I am not political, trendy, or savvy, but I do like a good story. That is why I try and find a movie clip that hints or encompasses what I want to blog about. Sometimes the relevance is there, sometimes it’s a reach and I just really love the movie that I put in the post. The intent and purpose of my blog is to make you think, make me think and together our thoughts can be shared in a collection of material.
