I have mentioned before that this blog has been in a lot of different platforms, started in Myspace then Facebook and for a little while Google+ when it was still around. My avatar for my google account is Donkey from Shrek. I came up with that because I was told once before that I was a jackass although I think she said it nicer than that and said that I was a donkey, anyway HEHaw here we go another adventure.
My friend Jason, we call him Gomer, which is kind of funny he got the nick name because he was making fun of this kid that he had in his keyboarding or math class, his name was David something or another and my friend Jason said that he looked like Gomer Pyle, somehow his insult reversed onto him and stuck. I think some people don’t know Gomer’s actual name is Jason. He worked at a radio station KBIG FM in Hilo, and this was like before Napster so you could get songs off the internet, but they had this P2P sharing system via FTP. You would upload a file in exchange to be able to download X number of songs off the server. Internet speeds were slow back then, so you’d pick a small file to upload mine was “All the small things” by Blink 182.
At the radio station Jason had access to all the music the station played over the air. When stations get radio edits to play at the time they come on a CD. We had the idea one night that we’d go over there and “borrow” some music by ripping it off the CDs onto my computer using MusicMatch. I was driving this beat up Mercedez Benz and had an unorthodox setup for my sound system, the car was so old that it did not have stereo it had one speaker, kind of like me I guess ( I am deaf in my left ear ) but we hooked up a fairly decent sound system in it by wiring directly to the battery.
The radio station is right next to Wal-mart in Hilo. After getting a bunch of music from the radio station, we were going to sit and hang out and test the newly installed amp in my busted car. All was good, we were having a good time and then all of a sudden the music stopped.
“Josh what happened?” Weidy asked me
“I think the wire came loose from the battery.” I said
“It’s ok we’ll just open the hood and fix it.” I added
So I went to open the hood, and the latch broke and wouldn’t release the hood. That’s no good now we couldn’t listen to music. With me that night was Jenny Gambsky and Weidy. Jen was amused that our little music setup was not working and how we tried everything we could think of to get it to work again. Off we went to Wal-Mart to get some tools. First, we were going to get a crowbar and pry it open. That did not seem to work. It was getting late and the security guard at Wal-Mart was getting suspicious of us and came over.
“Brah is that your car brah? he asked.
“Yeah it is, we are trying to fix our radio.” I told him
He rolled his eyes and went on. He must have thought we were a bunch of idiots, we were, but that’s ok.
So we tried and tried and it wasn’t until like 4 or so in the morning we had to give up. Jen needed to go home so I decided it was best not to destroy my car any more in the quest to get the music working again.
When I got home I found the problem could have been fixed by removing a couple of screws on the hood latch. Well where was that answer when I needed it. Day late and a dollar short, hence the name of the posts.
